THE CITY OF BENTONVILLE
The Mountain Bike Capital of the World
There is so much that Bentonville has to offer to everyone. From the history lover to the outdoor adventurer, thrill-seeker, and nature lover, Bentonville and Benton County have something to offer. The Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art looks to “unite the power of art with the beauty of nature” through its construction and exhibits. Considered one of the best places in the world for mountain biking, Bentonville is the perfect place for mountain bike enthusiasts, as well as outdoor recreation enthusiasts of all stripes.
What makes Bentonville the Mountain Biking Capital of the World is also what makes this the perfect place for all outdoor enthusiasts. The natural topography of the Ozark Mountains creates the perfect escape for hiking, camping, and exploring the local and regional lakes, parks, and trail systems. The community also offers great opportunities for local artists and musicians to showcase their works and be inspired by the work of others.
Bentonville offers a fantastic array of local cuisine, including craft breweries and coffee roasters, shopping, and entertainment. Here are a few of our favorites: Bentonville Brewing Co, Onyx Coffee Lab, Airship Coffee, Peddler's Pub, Table Mesa, and Oven and Tap to name a few.
Bentonville began as an agricultural community, and in 1901 was the leading apple producer in the country. Over the years dairy and poultry farming began to flourish, and continue to be large cash crops for the region today. The city is also home to the corporate headquarters of Wal-Mart, Inc. which has served to invigorate the local economy, making Benton County the economic hub of the entire region.
When Arkansas was granted statehood in 1836, Benton County became the first established county in the state. Named after Thomas Hart Benton, a Missouri senator who strongly advocated for Arkasnas’ statehood. The city of Bentonville grew up around the site of the Benton county seat and continued to grow until the Civil War saw most of the structure in the town razed. However in 1873, the city began to rebuild, and many of the Reconstruction Era buildings are still in use today.
Bentonville Public Schools is consistently one of the top school districts in Arkansas and scores an A+ rating from Niche.com. The school district has over 18,000 students and an above-average 1:14 student to teacher ratio, and a 93.5% graduation rate.
